Overview
Selank (TKPRPGP) is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences as an analog of the endogenous tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg). Tuftsin is an immunomodulatory peptide derived from the IgG heavy chain. Selank extends tuftsin with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro sequence — the same stabilizing addition used in Semax — which confers resistance to enzymatic degradation and modifies its pharmacological profile.
Selank has been studied as a potential anxiolytic compound without the sedative, muscle-relaxant, or amnestic properties of benzodiazepines. Animal model research has examined its effects on anxiety, depression, PTSD-like states, opioid withdrawal, and cognitive function including memory consolidation.
